Expanding Scientific Investigation Through Entomology

Sample Schedule

Week 1
• Welcome Dinner with REU students and faculty mentors
• Orientation
• Tours and introductions to Entomology laboratories
• Introductory discussion of Emerging Topics in Entomology
• Quantitative Methods Workshop
• One-day Craft of Writing workshop

Week 2
• Quantitative Methods Workshop
• Individual student-mentor conferences on research project development
• One-on-one tutoring and consultation on writing skills
• Time management workshop
• Initiation of student research projects

Week 3
• Quantitative Methods Workshop
• Continuation of student research projects
• One-on-one tutoring and consultation on writing skills
• GRE prep sessions

Week 4
• Quantitative Methods Workshop
• Continuation of student research projects
• One-on-one tutoring and consultation on writing skills
• Career development workshop

Week 5
• Continuation of student research projects
• One-on-one tutoring and consultation on writing skills
• Resume development workshop
• GRE prep sessions

Week 6
• Continuation of student research projects
• One-on-one tutoring and consultation on writing skills
• Interviewing skills workshop

Week 7
• Continuation of student research projects
• One-on-one tutoring and consultation on writing skills
• One-day Presenting Your Research workshop Part 1
• Trip to Schlitterbahn Water Park, New Braunfels, TX (Saturday)

Week 8
• Continuation of student research projects
• One-day Presenting Your Research workshop Part 2

Week 9
• Conclusion of student research projects
• Preparation of research presentations (poster, written and oral presentations)

Week 10
• Student Research Symposium (Wednesday and Thursday)
• Participation in campus-wide REU Student Poster Session and Reception
• Student evaluation of the REU experience and concluding discussions (Friday)
