Student Eligibility and Selection Process
Requirements for eligibility for this program are as follows:
- Students should have a demonstrated interest in science, (indicated in ways such as a major in the biological, life, agricultural, although other majors will be considered),
- Students should have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale),
- Current TAMU – College Station students are not eligible for participation.
- Recommended course work completed (preferred, but not required for selection) includes:
• Introductory biology
• Introductory chemistry
• Calculus-based mathematics - Documents including application, résumé and a Letter of Recommendation from a Faculty Member at a Current Institution
Selection Process
A committee of the faculty mentors and the program coordinator will review all applications. Students will be selected based by scoring on a scale of 1–5 of the following: the student essay; coursework and grades; letters of recommendation; contribution to diversity; relevant activities; and leadership and citizenship experience. Students will be selected based on an average composite score in these categories based on the scoring of the selection committee.
