General Help
Top Screen Area
CONTENTS
Overview
The Top Screen Area consists of two narrow horizontal bars that run across the top of all TIARA screens. The upper bar is the "Blue Menu Bar", which contains several user-selectable controls. The
lower bar is the "Header Bar", which displays header information
relevant to the currently active TIARA screen. The background of the Header Bar
matches that of the Main-Display Screen Area, but does not scroll with the latter area. The Header Bar never contains any user-selectable controls.
User-Selectable Controls
Blue Menu Bar
- "Back" image link - Click "Back" to move backwards to previously viewed screens. Use the Blue Menu
Bar "Back" feature to "back up" within the TIARA web site
-- do not use your browser's standard Back function. Use of your
browser's standard Back function will give incorrect and unpredictable
results. The "Back" feature has a maximum history depth of
approximately 50 screens.
- "Forward" image link - Click "Forward" to move
forward to previously viewed screens. Use the Blue Menu Bar
"Forward" feature to "move forward" within the TIARA web site -- do not
use your browser's standard Forward function. Use of your browser's
standard Forward function will give incorrect and unpredictable results.
The "Forward" feature has a maximum history depth of approximately
50 screens.
- "Home" image link - Click "Home" to display the TIARA home page screen. This action is exactly the same as clicking on the TIARA logo at the top of the left-side control panel.
- "Help" image link - Click "Help" to display a context-sensitive help
screen approrpiate to the active TIARA screen. The help screen will open
in a new "Help Window" (titled: "TIARA Help ... ), which will
be an independent copy of your current browser (e.g., Netscape, Internet
Explorer), and which can be viewed "on top of" the active TIARA
screen. The Help Window can be moved and resized as desired. Use the
"Back" and "Forward" buttons of the Help Widow to move
within and among the available help screens. The first time you display the Help Window in
any TIARA session it will "pop-up" on top of the active TIARA
screen. However, because the Help Window is a separate copy of
your current browser, you must explicitly close this window
when you are finished with it to preserve its automatic "pop-up" functionality.
If you click off the Help Window without first closing it, the next
help screen WILL NOT automatically pop-up. The newly requested help
screen will be loaded into the previously opened Help Window, which you
can then view at any time by selecting
it from your operating system's list of open
programs (look for "TIARA Help ...").
- "Restart" image link - Click
"Restart" to return TIARA to its "start up" state. This
button has the same apparent functionality as the "Home" home
button, i.e., the TIARA home page screen will be displayed, but, in
addition, a variety of internal parameters are reset. This feature may be useful in situations where the system appears to be returning anomalous results.
Header Bar
The Header Bar never contains any user-selectable controls.
