Neuropterida Species List
(Great Smoky Mountains National Park, ATBI) [orders: Neuroptera, Megaloptera and Raphidioptera]by John D. Oswald & Lionel A. Stange
Page maintained by John D. Oswald, j-oswald@tamu.edu
Temporal distributions of material examined by the authors from the GSMNP are summarized in a "month string" -- JFMAMJJASOND -- which consists of the first letter of each month of the year. Months from which adults have been examined are enclosed in parentheses (). If the month of collection is uncertain (e.g., specimens examined from malaise and pit-fall trap samples that span multiple months), the uncertain month(s) are preceded by a question mark (?). Example #1: JFMAM(JJ)ASO(N)D = adults examined from June, July and November. Example #2: JFMAMJJAS(?O?N)D = adults examined from a trap sample that spanned the months of October and November. Example #3: JFMAMJJAS(?ON)D = adults examined from a trap sample that spanned the months of October and November, but for which additional material definitely collected in November has been examined. Note that temporal distributions for all species are still quite incomplete because relatively few samples have yet been available for study.
