EGSO General Business Meeting-Minutes

December 9, 2002

3:00 PM, Heep 413-414

Graduate student present: 13 including officers

 

I.                    ESA representation- Jarrad Prasifka

-         Jarrad stated that the Student Affairs Committee wants more participation of students in symposiums, business meetings and ESA activities in general. This committee also wants more input from students in how to improve the interaction in ESA and what should be changed in ESA affairs.

-         Jarrad provided a sheet with the 2003 ESA contacts. This sheet will be sent by email.

-         - Jeremiah Dye will take Jarrad’s position as Student Affairs Committee representative for the Southwestern branch.

 

II.                 Mini-Grants- Rodrigo Diaz

There is money left for a new round of Mini-Grants that will be held next February. Since we have less money than the previous round, this will be more competitive. Rodrigo recommended turning in the reports of previous grants in order to be eligible for the new round.

 

III.               Seminar Series- Mark Johnsen

-         The Seminar Series Committee requested the title of the speaker’s talk.

-         Due to previous a trouble, the committee is interested to set a list of expectations for the speakers.

-         It was suggested that the speaker’s host would explain in detail what the seminar is about.

-         Mark will provide the process of selection of speakers in the next faculty meeting.

IV.              T- shirts- Mark Johnsen

-         The design was presented to the students. The artwork will be done by Tuesday (Dec. 12). The cost is going to be $13 each.

-         Mark acknowledged the T-Shirt committee.

V.                 Miscellaneous

-         ENTO 689- Aquatic Entomology - Walker Hale

                                                   i.      Walker mentioned that Dr. Cognato will be the teacher for Entomology.

-         Chili Cook-off - Mark Johnsen

                                                   i.      Three teams are registered so far.

                                                 ii.      Grads were cordially invited to this support this undergrad event.

-         Website by Mark Johnsen

                                                   i.      Each grad student will have a picture in the official website of the EGSO. Therefore, a short paragraph explaining something about your activities (not only academic) needs to be sent to Mark Johnsen. This paragraph will be placed below each picture.

-         Congratulations to Dr. Prasifka for outstanding recognitions in ESA during this year!!!!

-         EGSO Bowling was total success, we beat Biology!!!

-          HAPPY HOLIDAYS from the EGSO officers.
