EGSO Meeting Minutes

November 11, 2002

I. Welcome and Call to Order- EGSO President Mark Johnsen

II. GPE funds – Mark Johnsen

a. Mark informed that Dr. Heinz approved the distribution of GPE funds.

III. Department Head Search –Mark Johnsen

a. Mark informed that comments of graduate students were sent to the Dept. head search committee. There was a positive response from the students towards the candidate.

b. Dr. Rutz will be at ESA. Students were encouraged to meet him.

IV. Mini-grant process – Ryan Caesar

a. Money awarded in last call: $ 9, 999.0

b. Money left for second call: $ 2, 905.0

V. Seminar series- Mark Johnsen

a. Mark informed that due to a disappointing seminar during this fall, EGSO Seminar Series committee (SSC) has been blamed. However, it was stated that SSC members are not the only persons responsible for the selection of speakers.

b. A better system for the selection of speakers was suggested. Basically students were encouraged to explain with more detail why a speaker should be invited and the speaker should know what are our expectations as audience.

VI. ESA booth- Mark Johnsen

a. Students were encouraged to participate in two hours shifts in A&M both at ESA.

VII. Financial report- Veronica Manrique

a. We have in the account: $ 1, 970.01

VIII. Miscellaneous:

a. Recruiting meeting (November 13, 2002- 11:30, Heep, room 413-414)

b. Bobb’s seminar (cookies at 3:00 pm at he Mosquito Research Lab)

c. T-Shirt designs: Hey!! We need more ideas!!
