I.                    Welcome and Call to Order- EGSO President Mark Johnsen

II.                 Opening remarks- Dr. Kevin Heinz

a.       Spoke about the importance of EGSO

b.      Dr. Heinz will be meeting with a focus group of students in order to discuss student life

c.       Dr. Heinz is interested to receive inputs in recruiting new students. Mentioned ESA at FT. Lauderdale

d.      Dr. Heinz mentioned a program of the Dept. of Entomology with the Eisenhower Leadership program (part of the George Bush School).

III.               EGSO committee membership- Mark Johnsen

a.       Described EGSO committees and their purposes

b.      Ryan Caesar gave an explanation about Entoblitz.

c.       Allan Gillogly explained about GPE funds

d.      Called for volunteers to fill vacancies in committees

e.       Called for volunteers to committee chairpersons

f.        Sign-up sheet was circulated

g.       Committee chairpersons were chosen

                                                            iii.      T-Shirt committee- Mark Johnsen

                                                          vii.      Entoblitz committee- Ryan Kirkpatrick

h.       Students that did not participate in this meeting are welcome to be part of any of these committees

IV.              Departmental committees- Mark Johnsen

a.       Described departmental committees and their purposes

b.      Asked for nominations for departmental committees

c.       Ballot will be sent in next days

V.                 Financial report & dues- Veronica Manrique 

a.       Balance of $ 1,887.01

b.      Called and accepted for the payment of dues for EGSO membership ($1)

c.       Explained what is the $1 for

d.      It was recommended to read the EGSO constitution

VI.              Mini- Entoblitz – Ryan Caesar

a.       Described purposes

b.      First trip will be to “Los Pines” biological station. He will send an email with more info.

VII.            Miscellaneous

a.       Entograd-list server- Bobb Gorena

                                                               i.      Mentioned problem with multiple email addresses

                                                             ii.      Bobb will make necessary changes

b.      Seminar Series- Allan Gillogly

                                                               i.      Students can participate in seminars in the departments Entomology, Genetics and Wildlife.

                                                             ii.      Students interested to assist to seminars outside Entomology need to inform to Dr. Craig Coates.

c.       Departmental Head Search – Marcia Trostle

                                                               i.      Mentioned the visit of one candidate during Sept. 29 to Oct.3.

                                                             ii.      Grad students were encouraged to meet with the candidate

d.      EGSO website- Ryan Caesar

                                                               i.      Asked for inputs in website contents

e.       General acknowledgements-Mark Johnsen

                                                               i.      Acknowledged students that participate in summer picnics and student seminars

f.        Fall Departmental Picnic- Mark Johnsen

                                                               i.      Date has not been decided

g.       Outreach Program- Hee Kim

                                                               i.      Provided info about outreach program in High schools

                                                             ii.      Graduates students were encouraged to participate during high school visits
