Jim K. Olson

Title:  Professor

Education:

Research Emphasis: Biology, ecology, survey and management of mosquitoes and other biting nematoceran flies. Populations of these insects associated with agricultural and reclaimed wetland systems emphasized. Also developing a database on insect species of forensic importance that occur in Central Texas.

Research and Teaching Activities: Current research projects include the study of the genetics of Culex salinarius; the species diversity and biology of mosquito populations associating with small, intra-urban wetland sites; interaction between Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus populations in Central Texas urban areas; and species composition of natural arthropod predator populations associated with Cx. salinarius larval populations in their coastal upland marsh over-summering sites. Association of blow fly species with carrion beetles is also being assessed, particularly in the Central Texas region.
