Faculty Members Recognized as Fellows of TAES

Dr. George Teetes was selected in January as an inaugural Faculty Fellow in the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station. Established in 1998, this award and designation recognize outstanding and productive faculty who have contributed to the scholarly creation and dissemination of new knowledge through exceptional research, leadership, and grantsmanship within their respective discipline. Dr. Teetes was recognized with the award at the General Session of the 1999 Agriculture Program Conference on January 13, 1999 at Texas A&M University.



Dr. S. Bradleigh Vinson was selected in January as an inaugural Faculty Fellow in the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station. Established in 1998, this award and designation recognize outstanding and productive faculty who have contributed to the scholarly creation and dissemination of new knowledge through exceptional research, leadership, and grantsmanship within their respective discipline. Dr. Vinson was recognized with the award at the General Session of the 1999 Agriculture Program Conference on January 13, 1999 at Texas A&M University.



Johnston Awarded Visiting Fellowship

Dr. J. Spencer Johnston was recently awarded a Visiting Fellowship to St. Hugh's College in Oxford, England. Johnston was unanimously elected to the fellowship by the Governing Body of St. Hugh's College. The election is made according to "…any person in public or professional life or any scholar who in its opinion is qualified to undertake some definite piece of research…" Dr. Johnston will visit in Oxford from January until June, 1999. This prestigious designation recognizes his long and productive research career.

Administrative/Clerical Award:

Ms. Anna Kjolen,

Staff Assistant, Fire Ant Project

Anna has been employed with the Texas A&M University system since 1990, and joined the Department of Entomology in 1995. She currently serves as Staff Assistant and is instrumental in the implementation of the Fire Ant Plan. Anne volunteers her time on the Support Staff Advisory Committee and Educational Outreach Committee.



Technical Award:

Mr. Allen Dean,

Research Assistant

Allen has served as research assistant in the Department of Entomology for 22 years. He has authored or 54 publications and is a member of the Entomological Society of America, the Southwest Entomological Society, and the American Arachnological Society. Allen was a founding member of the Entomology Support Staff Advisory Committee on which he served for two years.

M.S. Award:

Ms. Wizzie Johnson,

M.S. Degree Candidate, Dr. Roger Gold

Wizzie currently serves as a graduate teaching assistant and maintains countless responsibilities in addition to her M.S. work. She serves as Vice President of the Entomology Graduate Student Organization, is a Student Representative to the Faculty Education Committee, and serves as a Graduate Student Council Representative.



Ph.D. Award:

Mr. Carlos Bogran,

Ph.D. Degree Candidate, Dr. Kevin Heinz

Carlos' research has produced numerous awards, and his performance in the classroom has drawn praise from faculty members. He has been published in many scientific journals, and is currently awaiting a decision on his proposal for a formal symposium on heteronomy to be presented at the International Congress of Entomology to be held in Brazil in 2000.
