Recruitment Team Receives Vice Chancellor Award in Excellence for Diversity

Congratulations to Dr. Kevin Heinz, Ms. Rebecca Hapes, Dr. Pete Teel and Dr. Bay for
receiving the award for Diversity from the Vice Chancellor of Texas A&M AgriLife.

Through the efforts of the Department of Entomology’s Recruitment Team, women students now make up 54 percent of the student population; ethnic minority students, 30 percent; and first-generation Aggies make up 38 percent of the undergraduates. The Recruitment Team serves as both the storefront and the fuel for recruitment and retention. Their efforts have resulted in a 71 percent increase in undergraduate student enrollment since 2003.

In addition, faculty members represent cultural and ethnic diversity from every continent except Antarctica, the global nature and importance of entomology has been highlighted, and the department has been nationally recognized⎯through its Academic Program Review and the Council of Entomology Administrators⎯as the largest, most diverse program in the nation.
