Discover Entomology at Texas A&M University

Mr. Ed Riley

The On-Campus Extension Technical Support Award in Excellence is presented to Edward G. Riley, Associate Curator, Department of Entomology.

Recognized by his peers as one of the best insect collection managers in the United States-with "encyclopedic" knowledge of insect biology-Mr. Riley has been instrumental in the growth of the Texas A&M University Insect Collection from about 800,000 specimens to some 2.2 million over his 19-year career.

Now considered one of the nation's most extensive and respected university-based collections, Texas A&M's Insect Collection has received more than $700,000 in improvement grants from the National Science Foundation during Mr. Riley's tenure. He is also praised for his ability to share knowledge about insects just as passionately with first-graders as he does with fellow taxonomists.
