Biological Control: Putting Nature to Work for TexasM.E. Merchant and A. Knutson Texas Agricultural Extension Service |
The study and manipulation of living organisms to help control agricultural and urban pests is known as biological control. Biological control is an important component of modern integrated pest management (IPM) programs and is increasingly being viewed as an important pest control strategy that can supplement the use of, or in some cases replace, synthetic pesticides.
This slide set has been designed to acquaint professional pesticide applicators, Extension personnel, growers, consumers and decision-makers with the basic concepts of biological control. Also covered are some of the significant successes in the use of biological control, and a discussion of the potential for use of this method in both urban and agricultural areas.
