Facts: There are several species of banded-winged grasshoppers.
They are conspicuous when they fly because of the brightly colored wings.
Wings can be red, pink, or orange with dark bands. Some like the carolina grasshopper
have yellowish bands on dark wings.
When they land they tend to disappear because they blend with the grass and soil.
Some of the males in this group fly in circles with a loud snapping noise
as part of the courtship ritual.
