Entomology Students Part of Record Number of Graduates at TAMU Spring Commencement

A total of 24 Department of Entomology students were expected to walk the stage of Reed Arena during spring commencement exercises on Friday, May 13.

The group, which included 21 undergraduates, 1 masters and 2 Ph.D. students, were part of a record-breaking 6,800 students that were expected to graduate from the university this spring.

The graduating class of the Department’s students received commemorative pins from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences for the college’s Centennial celebration. Students were also treated to a short lunchtime celebratory reception at the Heep Center before the 2 pm ceremony began.

Rick Mendez was very excited and ready to receive his degree in Entomology. He said he will be planning to start a teacher certification program in the future.

His mother, Melissa Mendez-Morales was also excited about her son graduating.

“It’s well deserved and long-awaited. We are extremely proud of him,” she said.

Professor and Associate Department Head for Academic Programs Dr. Pete Teel welcomed everyone at the reception and congratulated the students on their hard work.

“We want to wish you good luck in all that you do,” Teel said.

“I really enjoyed the Department and the teachers are spectacular,” Entomology major Phillip Scott said. “The Department really felt like family.”

Congratulations to the following students and good luck in the future!
