Students Part of Record-Breaking Graduation for College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
The Department of Entomology was part of the largest graduation ever recorded in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences during May 14, 2010 commencement.
The Department watched 28 students walk the stage, consisting of 22 undergraduates, 3 master's and 3 Ph. D. students, as part of the 850 undergrads and 150 graduate students from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Students, their families and faculty were treated to cake and lunch before the 2pm ceremony began. Some students were excited while others, such as Kimberly Thompson, had mixed emotions.
"It's kind of bittersweet," she said. "I am excited but going to be sad to be leaving my friends."
Parents Renee and Brad Sanford were thrilled to see their daughter Michelle graduate with her Ph.D. in entomology. "We are very proud of her," Renee Sanford said. Sanford will be continuing her work as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of California-Davis.
Kaylie McGuire ,as well as fellow senior Casey Branach were also honored with the Senior Merit Award by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences during a special awards convocation during Parents Weekend.
The award is the highest honor the College bestows on graduating seniors based on outstanding leadership, scholarship and service during their undergraduate years.
