Reinert Honored by Department, Texas AgriLife Research for Service
For more than 25 years, Dr. Jim Reinert has been helping to keep turfgrasses that blanket lawns across Texas from insect damage. The Department of Entomology honored his work as he retired earlier this year.
Along with Texas Agrilife Research, the Department honored Reinert during a luncheon at the annual Turfgrass Field Day in College Station on October 6.
Reinert started work with Texas AgriLife Research as a Professor since 1984 at the Urban Solutions Center in Dallas. Reinert was named the 2003 Faculty Fellow for Texas AgriLife Research in 2004 and then was named Texas A&M System Regents Fellow in December 2005.
“He has done a tremendous job,” Ragsdale said about Reinert’s work with Texas AgriLife Research and the turfgrass industry.
Professor and Extension Specialist Bart Drees has worked with Reinert for more than a decade and said that he has been great to work with on the various collaborative projects.
“I have found him to be ‘the source of information’ on insect and mite pest resistant turfgrass varieties and cultivars, as well as integrated pest management of landscape arthropods,” Drees said. “I certainly wish him the best in the future and hope to see him continue in our profession.”
“I appreciate this and had a wonderful time working with you,” Reinert said. “You have a wonderful crew here and I advise you to take advantage of this opportunity.”
Reinert received his Masters of Science in Entomology in 1968 and his Ph.D. in Entomology in 1970. His research has contributed to the release of 14 turfgrass cultivars. Additionally, he is a joint holder of six plant patents.
