The event brings together both on-and off- campus faculty and Extension agents from both the Texas AgriLife Extension Service and Texas AgriLife Research to discuss various entomological topics affecting the state.</p>

The Department of Entomology introduced Dr. Gregory Sword of the University of Sydney in Sydney, Australia, as this year's Perry Adkisson Distinguished Seminar Speaker during the 2009 Departmental seminar series on September 10. Sword is a senior lecturer for the School of Biological Sciences and heads the Molecular Ecology Lab. The lab's research ranges from molecular genetics and behavior to landscape scale ecology and phylogenetics.

Brewer joined the center on September 1 from Michigan State University, where he was an associate professor as well as the coordinator for MSU's IPM program.

For Dr. Raul Villanueva, the Rio Grande Valley will be called home as he settles into his new post as assistant professor and Extension Specialist for the Texas AgriLife Extension and Research Center in Weslaco.<br>

Dr. Villanueva joined Texas AgriLife Extension on August 20th and will be working with producers and the communities in the Valley area. Before coming to Weslaco, he worked as a research associate at North Carolina State University.

As another fall semester dawns in less than three weeks, the Department welcomes Dr. Aaron Tarone to the faculty roster.
A native of Modesto, California, Tarone joined the Department August 1 as an assistant professor in molecular forensics. He most recently served as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Southern California in the laboratory of Sergey Nuzhdin.
