Scientific name: Pogonomyrmex barbatus (F. Smith)
Facts: Red harvester ants are reddish-brown and 1/4 to 1/2 inch long.
They build mounds which are clear of vegetation and typically covered
with small gravel with the entrance hole near the center of the mound.
These ants may sting if disturbed. They forage around the mound for seeds.
