Scientific name: Megacyllene robiniae (Forster)
Facts: Locust borer larvae feed in living black locust trees.
Although this is one of the most commonly seen longhorned beetle
species in Texas, there are also many other species that occur here. There
is a wide range of variation in color and size. Many of them are quite
large, well over 2 inches long. Some have gaudy colors such as the locust
borer's black and yellow. Some very closely resemble bees and wasps in
overall appearance. Long antennae and bright color patterns make these
favorites for collectors.
