Scientific name: Dissosteira carolina (Linnaeus)
(Orthoptera: Acrididae)

Facts: There are many species of grasshoppers in Texas and the Carolina grasshopper is just one representative. Many grasshoppers have clear wings but some have yellow, red or blue wings. The Carolina grasshopper has a black wing with a yellow border which makes it very conspicuous as it flies. This is a widely distributed species.
