Frequently Asked Questions

Topic:
Beetles, ladybird
Question:
I have quite a number of ladybugs inside my home. What is the recommended control for them?
Answer:
You don't want to eliminate ladybugs. They are beneficial insects that control other damage-causing insects. You are better off if you can let them move out on their own when the weather gets warmer. If you treat them you may have a bunch of dead decaying insects that can be a problem. You may want to remove them mechanically with a vacuum or broom to collect them. Insecticides for crawling insects especially the pyrethroids like permethrin, cyfluthrin, pyrethrin, etc. will give a quick knock down and some temporary relief. Those are probably the multicolored Asian lady beetles, Harmonia axyridis. You can find information on it on the Web by searching for the scientific name.
