Frequently Asked Questions

Topic:
Beetles, pine bark
Question:
Some of our pines may be infested by pine beetles. Can you point me toward the treatment/prevention we should be performing to try and prevent their decline?
Answer:
Pine bark beetle management basics are remove and destroy any infested wood first. Second, you can treat the trunk of the trees that you want to protect with a registered insecticide. Drench the trunks and major limbs. Treatment will provide some prevention but is no sure cure. Follow directions on the product label. Permethrin is the main product that we have for that situation right now. See our publications section. Browse the titles for "Woodboring Insects in Trees and Shrubs," or do a search for publication B-5086.
