Topic:
Crickets, raising
Question:
I am high school student and a small scale private reptile breeder as a way to earn money for college.

I need acurate and detailed information on how to breed crickets (Acheta domestica) at home, in numbers of 5,000 to 10,000 crickets a week. Can you help?

Answer:
There hasn't been a lot written on this subject. Companies who are successful do not share their trade secrets. As far as I know, they are fed dry dog food. Water is provided in containers that they can climb out of without getting stuck. They are usually provided with clean sand in dishes about an inch deep to lay eggs. Shelter is typically old egg cartons or cardboard, not styrofoam. Room temperature should be fine. Hope this helps.
