Frequently Asked Questions

Topic:
Caterpillars, asps
Question:
I have an infestation of asps on shrubs at my home. What can I do to get rid of them that is environmentally safe?
Answer:
The caterpillars called "asps" in Texas are properly called puss caterpillars or Megalopyge opercularis. Asps, like other caterpillars, can be controlled with a Bacillus thuringiensis product like Dipel, Thuricide, Worm Killer, or whatever is sold in your area. This is probably the most environmentally sensitive of the products available. They can also be controlled with carbaryl (Sevin), Orthene, or other products for chewing insects.
