Frequently Asked Questions

Topic:
Beetles, cottonwood borer
Question:
I would like some help identifying a bug. This is for my 7th grade science class. The bug is about 1-1/2 inches long, 1/2-inch wide with long antennae (about 2 inches). The bug is black and white (more white with black markings). I know this is vague, but if you could point us in the right direction that would be great.
Answer:
It's probably a cottonwood borer. Check out this picture on our Field Guide to Texas Insects on our Web site and see if it's similar.
